ENERGY CRISES AND HOW TO OVERCOME THIS PROBLEM.
We have almost consumed our discovered natural gas resources.
Natural gas resources should be wisely used. Long term planning should be done
how to save our natural treasure. But we do not do which should be done at
initial level. We consumed our natural resources in vehicles, this decision
should be critically analyzed and initially measures should be taken. Natural
resources should be saved for our generations but we used these resources in
luxurious activities. Natural resources should be used to run the industry not
for vehicles. In my view, this resource should also not be consumed in
household purpose. Human beings can live without luxury but they cannot survive
without eating and necessities.
NATURAL GAS
Natural gas, being cheap and environment friendly energy source,
has always been the first priority of both households and other consumers. In
line with the rising population and increasing economic activity the demand of
natural gas increased, whereas the local production is not enough to cater the
demand and the resources which was recovered has been consumed in luxurious
activities. To bridge demand-supply gap, Pakistan started import of RLNG in
2015 and the share of import in total gas consumption is increasing since then
which has negatively affected our trade deficit. Now are struggling to run our
industry by imported input energies. Due to our unplanned decisions, we have
lost our resources and have become dependent on other countries which are
exporters of fuels.
Due to absence of any big discoveries in recent periods the
overall gas reserves of the country are declining. PSO and Pakistan LNG Limited
are the only importers of natural gas in the country where in combined
regassification capacity of the both regassification units of the country is
about 1200-1380MMCFD. It is strategically important to increase the overall
regassification capacity of the country to cope up with rising imports of RLNG.
STRUCTURAL IMPROVEMENTS
Other major issue of loss of resources in our country is
structural issue. We need to manage the structural issues of gas distribution
sector which are continuously increasing and these issues if not addressed have
the potential to significantly dent the sector’s ability to deliver to its
consumer which in turn will have a serious implication for the overall economic
growth of the country.
NEED TO REVISIT THE REHULATIONS:
We need to revisit our planning / strategies to survive of generations. We need to save our natural resources to run the wheel of our industry, which is in our long run benefit. We need to think about it before …………….
DEFFICIENCIES IN POWER
PURCHASE AGREEMENTS:
Pakistan is struggling
to overcome the issues / crises of power to run the economy. After Covid
pandemic economy of Pakistan expands, particularly “Textile Sector” of Pakistan
is at boom. To continue this growth in economy Pakistan need to resolve energy
issues. Pakistan’s Power / Energy Sector is confronting
deep-routed issues since long. The key risks being weak financial discipline
and hasty & unplanned PPAs with suppliers / IPPs. Power Sector is backbone
of economy of country, the Government should take long term sustainable
solutions to the ingrained power issues. Apart from the rising circular debt,
some positive developments have surfaced on the economic and power sector level
in the recent times.
NATURAL RESOURCES AS INPUT SOURCE / RENEWABLE TYPES / RENEWABLE ENERGY EXPAMLES
Government should take steps to increase natural
resources of power production i.e solar system, wind, hydro, biogas, bio-fuels,
bagasse cogeneration, and geothermal as fuel.
RENEWABLE ENERGY POWER
PROJECTS
In my view Govt should
take steps to increase the renewable energy power projects in which exhaust
heat of gen sets and other machinery should be used as input energy sources.
Some of our sectors which are producing In House energy / captive power plants
are textiles, food & beverages, pharmaceuticals and chemicals. Govt
should support these sectors and should provide subsidized inputs to produce
cheaper energy.
